Deconstructive reading of sonnet 18

Deconstructive reading of sonnet 18

  Hello readers!

Here I would like to wrote about Deconstructive reading of poem. This task is given by pro. Dilip Barad sir MKB university.

Deconstruction is the term associated specifically with the thought of the French philosopher Jacques Derrida. However, in order to grasp its specific contribution, it should be situated within the broader intellectual frame work associated with post structuralist thinking. Which in turn cannot be properly understood outside it's relationship to structuralism.

From 1060 onwards post - structuralist thinkers such as Derrida, foucault and lacan adopted a radical position in terms of science in general and of structuralist thinking in particular in that they not only questioned the possibility of objective description, but also cast doubt on, or radically reformalated, the structuralist principles of the saussurean language model.

Deconstructive reading

In other words, decontamination is the opponent of the original authoritarian meaning of the text that criticism conventionally seeks to establish.

A deconstructive reading is based completely on the subjective opinion of the reader, is a counter - writing which keeps postponing its final version.

Though Decontamination cannot be reduced to one method of appliance in practical criticism, deconstructive analysis of a text by means of patient reading, attention to detail and clarity of stand point.

Deconstructive criticism seeks to interpret a literary or philosophical work by lending prominence to its suppressed silent meaning.

The principal move of deconstructive appraisal is to home in on the binary oppositions within a text to dissolve and displace them through its practice. Deconstructive reading, which is a re-reading in the sense of interpretation in the presence of all pre existent interpretations, adopts existent interpretations, adopts a three - pronsed approach to deal with dualities. It first exposes how the Depositions are configured hierarchical, secondry, it upends the hierarchy provisionally, to make the text revers what it appeared to mean primarily.

Sonnet 18 by William Shakespeare is poem where the persona who is immensely in love with his love and compares her with summer. The comparison is done based on the beauty of summer 's day and its wonders.

This fourteenth - line poem begins with a straightforward question in the first person, addressed to the object of the poet' s attention : "shall I compare thee to a summer day?" after a direct answer, " Thou art more lovely and more. Temperate," the next seven lines. Of the poem develop the comparison with a series of objections to a summer day.

I the second line speaker stipulates what mainly differentiates the young man from the summer's day: he is" more lovely and more temperate". Summer's days tend toward extreme: they are shaken by "rough winds", in the theme, the sun often shines. "too hot", or to dim.

By comparison, the speaker says that the " eternal summer" of his beloved will never end - his beloved never lose his Beaty, and that beauty will never succumb to death. The reason for this is that the poem itself, the " eternal lines" committed to paper by the poet, with stand as a monument to the beloved and his beauty. For as long as men are alive and still reading the lines the poet has written, it "gives life" to the beloved and he will be immortal.

                                                        Thank you...
