Edward said on " Orientalism"

Edward said "Orientalism"

Hello reader's!

Here I am going to wrote about " Orientalism" is written by Edward said. This blog is my academic Activity. This task is given by my professor Dilip Barad sir from Department of English Bhavnagar University.

Edward said

Edward wadie said was a professor of literature at Columbia university, a public intellectual, and a founder of the academic field of postcolonial studies. A Palestine, he was a citizen of the United states by way his father, a U. S. Army veteran.

" Orientalism

" Orientalism" is a 1978 book by Edward w. Said, in which the author established the eponymous term " Orientalism" as a critical concept to to describe the west's common, contemptuous depiction and portrayal of " The East", I, e. The orient.

" Orientalism" is a way of seeing that imagines, emphasize, exaggerates and diatorats differences of Arab peoples and cultures as compared to that of Europe and the U. S. it often involves seeing Arab culture as exotic, backward, uncivilized, and at times dengerous.

According to said, Orientalism dates from the period of European Enlightenment and colonization of the Arab word. Orientalism provided a rationalization based on a self - serving history in which " The west" constructed " The East" as extremely different and inferior, and therefore in need of western intervention or rescues ".

Wirite brief about said's interview about Orientalism

The  Central argument of Orientalism is that way that we acquire this knowledge is not innocent or objective but the end result of a process that reflects certain interests that is, it is highly motivated. Specifically said argues that the way the west, Europe and the U. S. Looks at the countries And peoples of the middle East is through a lens that distorts the actual reality of those places and those people.

Edward said in Orientalism began for two reasons, one it was an immediate thing, that is to say, the Arab - Israel ; war of 1973, which had been preceded by a lot of images and discussions in the media in the popular press about how the Arab are cowardly and they don't know how to fight and they are always going to be eaten because they are not modern.

And the second is, which has a much longer history in my own life was the constant sort of disparitly I felt between what my experience of being and Arab was, and the representations of that that one saw in art. I am talking about very great artists, you know, like Delacroxi and Ang and Gerome and people like that, novelist who wrote about the orient like Disraeil or flaubert and you know the fact that those representations of the orient had  very little to do with what I knew about my own background in life, so I decide to write the history of that.

Palestinian issue

This section talks of coexistence between religions, race, traditions, and beliefs, it shows how to understand one another and therefore expects to understand in order and therefore expects to understand in order for us to all live peacefully and Amicably with each other. The subsequent pages will focus more on Orientalism.

Palestine is a small region of land that has played a prominent role in the ancient and modern history of the middle East. The history of Palestine has been marked by frequent political conflict and violent land seizures because of its importance to several major world religions, and because Palestine sits at a valuable geographic crossroads between Africa and Asia.

Thinking Activity :- "To The Lighthouse " by Virginia Woolf

Hello reader's!

This blog is a part of my academic Activity, the link of given task is here.

About the author :- Virginia Woolf

She is a very famous writer in English language. She also feminist writer. Adeline Virginia Woolf was born in 25 January 1882 and died on 28 March 1941. She is an English writer, considered one of the most important modernist writer in 20 th century. She is also a pioneer int the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device.

Woolf become one of the Central subjects of the 1970s movement of feminist criticism and her works have since garnered much attention and widespread commentary for " inspiring feminism".

 1) How can you explain that ' waht Virginia Woolf wanted to say ( for example, the complexity of human relationship, the everything battles that people are at in their relationship with near and dear ones, the struggle of a female artist against the values of middle /upper class society etc) can only be said in the way she has said? Key The How of the narrative technique is to be discussed along with features of stream of consciousness technique which helps Woolf to put in effective manner what she experienced in abstractions.

Ans :-                   yes, very appropriately Woolf used complexity in human relationship like the mr, Ramsay and Mrs, Ramsay. This kind of relationship we can find in everyone's relation in artist's life like in the novel Lilly struggle a lot and also we can find similar in our time also that many artist like filmmaker writer, cartoonist, painters also beaten by public and Power or patriarchy. If we read biographically then we can come to know that Virginia Woolf used this technique to prove that woman also can write and paint better than men. So, we can say that she represents good psyche and their relation, and these type of sensitive or social problems women writers or film shows well in many movies also, for exa. Lipstick under my burkha " script writer as he all a Kartika sharivastam.

2)Do you agree: "The novel is both the tribute and critique of Mrs. Ramsay"? Can we read Mrs. Ramsay in the context of the idea of ideal Indian Woman - Karyeshu dasi, Karaneshu manthri; Bhojeshu mata, Shayaneshu rambha; Kshamayeshu dharithri, Roopeshu lakshmi; Satkarma yukta, Kuladharma patni.

Ans :-                 The novel is both the tribute and critique as per my perspective Mrs Ramsay we know that she comes out as there was article of faith that ' woman can't write and paint'. She emerges as well cared mother and self sacrifice women Woolf gives more importance on her character of lily Briacoe. On the center part of the novel, Mrs,Ramsay dies but she remains alive into the heart of the readers.

3) Considering symbolically, does the Lighthouse stand for Mrs. Ramsay or the narrator(Virginia Woolf herself who is categorically represented by Lily)? Secondly, the narrator/author cannot fully disappear from the novel and thus the stoicism of Lily to paint and thus prove that she can paint, is symbolically presented in stoicism of Lighthouse.

Ans :-  yes I think at some extent lighthouse is symbolically stand for Mrs. Ramsay. We can interpret the symbol of lighthouse with Mrs. Ramsay who is the center in the novel and direction given to the family like lighthouse gives the way to the bashed people, about the narrator, with biographically context, we can say that Virginia's character is more presented in lily's character and her dilcmma is Virginia Woolf's own mental dilemma. So she is connected with lily throughout the novel.

4) In the article by Joseph Blonter, two myths are patterned together. Name the myths? How they are zeroed down to the symbols of 'Window' and 'Lighthouse'? How does the male phallic symbol represent feminine Mrs. Ramsay?

Ans :-                    in the present novel woolf used two myths one is pagan myth in which Woolf connected Mrs, Ramsay with rhea who had similar numbers of children like Mrs, Ramsay and laso a well nurtured woman and with demeter an important characteristics of Mrs, Ramsay in her demeter aspect is her complete femininity as demeter was worshiped more by me than women like Ramsay who respected more men than women. To the lighthouse is based on Greek myth. In this novel Woolf use various myth Joseph Blotner has also use the famous myth the of knows and Rhe is relation between father and mother knows had children.

5) What do you understand by the German term "Kunstlerroman"? How can you justify that 'To the light House' is 'Kunstlerroman' novel?

Ans :-                The German term " kunstlerroman" means development or a struggle of an artist as in ' To The Lighthouse' lily's and carmichael characters the novel itself is a struggle of an artist. Here we find two artist growth. Beginning of the novel we see that lily was started to her painting and the middle of the novel we find that she left her painting and the end of the novel we find that she complete her novel so here we find that she complete her novel so here we find that artists growth in mind means through her all long period she continuously thinking about her painting.

6) Explain Lily's dilemma in 'To the light house'

Ans :-                    This above lines remark that.. Being mother is celebrated as a wonderful in tradition but in this above discourse there is a full of agony and pain. At last mothering is a very bad idea, Prue is the examples women who believed in sacrificing and obedience of patriarchal world, who are ready to be ruled over her by patriarchal beliefs and society. Lily's dilemma presents this, she has very strong rejection about patriarchal beliefs and throughout the novel.

7) You have compared the beginning and the ending of the novel and the film adaptation of the novel directed by Colin Gregg. Do you think that the novel is more poignant than the movie? If yes, do you ascribe the fact that the power of words is much greater than that of the screen/visual?

Ans :-               Both the beginning and ending of novel and movie are different. In novel we are wandering by the mind of the characters, while movie is giving introduction to all. When we read  the beginning of the novel it has effective start like we enter in the mind of characters one by one and in the film it has differently begun with the introduction of the characters. Both are effective but we can say that novel has long narration of Lily's dilemma and her vision.

8) How do you interpret the last line of the novel - It was done it was finished

Ans :-                    last line of the novel can be interested with two ways first, ' it is completed...' means now, she proved to patriarchal world that women can paint, 'women can write ' and second, she completed Mrs. Ramsay's painting and found her vision means her mental confusion or dilemma about Mrs. Ramsay’s character is clear. She also might want live that life so, that can be her vision Going inside the room, leaving brush somewhere, and on bed saying Briscoe, you are a fool suggests that Mrs. Ramsay was right mow she has her vision.

9) What does the catalog named as 'Army and Navy' signify? What does cutting 'Refrigerator signify?

Ans :-                    The catalogue named " Army and Navy" signifies by its name that war and consumerism. Both are connected. Virginia Woolf her may tries to criticize capitalism during her time. The refrigerator in that catalogue, which first is a Symbol modernisam and accepting new technology. In the novel Mrs. Ramsay is traditional housewife, guiding James while cutting refrigerator suggests that she wants other to preserve culture. For instance she suggest lily to marry.

10)  Why did Virginia give such prominence to the tale of the "Fisherman's wife"? In particular, why did she weave such a misogynist tale into the fabric of a book which so eloquently challenges received patriarchal notions about the role and capabilities of women?

And :-               by giving place to the story like " Fisherman and his wife" we can see that Virginia Woolf is trying to criticize here the way women is portrayed in the story. She also wants to criticize the women who thinks these types of stereotyping real and also believe in that, they themselves are like this only. Mrs. Ramsay is more successful in her Lilly Briscoe is better in her profession than Charles Tansely. Fairy tale shows the dangers of male will fulness and desire.

11) How is India represented in 'To the light house'

And :-   The people from west have different lense to look towards the India. In " To the Lighthouse" also there are many reference of India but all are different. At some place India to west world is like a land which is unknown to them and far away from them,so they don't have any direct connection with Indian. The jewels of India is own by western people with proud of possessing it. At some place it also becomes the land of desire great romance, adventure and happiness. So when Augustus Carmichael is going to India is considered as some kind of achievement. A also show it also refers that it is ruled by men folk. So these are the different ways in which India is represented in " To the Lighthouse".

                                        Thank you...

Role of Teacher and Learners

Hello reader's!

Hear is blog about Role of Teachers and Learners. We all know that All students have had hundreds of teachers in their lifetimes. They remember only a few teachers as being exceptionally good. Every teacher. Teachers on a Patterns implicit in their teaching. Learning is a change in the way an individual thinks, acts and feels. Learning takes place through experiences involving people, things and events and the response to these. So we can see my blog about Role of Teacher and learners.

Role of Teachers

Teachers play vital roles in the lives of the students in their classrooms. Teachers are best known for the role of education Beyond that, teachers serve many other roles in the classroom. Their is some topic of the developed teachers skills, teaching knowledge like..

 Rosource
One of the top roles a teacher must fill is that of a resources specialists. There will be many people who will come to the teacher seeking information. Even if the person is only seeking information.

Support

Students are the ones who need support when learning a new skill or piece of information. A teacher must act as the support person when the student needs this help. Support can come in many forms such as a coach, leader and even a counselor.

Mentor
One of the biggest roles a teacher may have is that of a mentor. Students look up to teachers and may pattern their own behavior and work can ethic to match the instructor.

Helping hand

A leader in a school is a person who takes on extra tasks such as leading the PTA meeting and even helping set up a gym for a big event. Teacher who are active in the school will often have more jobs than just the one they were hired to perform.

# Role of Learners

As a learners, students play a crucial and active role in education they involve and interact with students and teachers, participate in class room discussions, and act in a receptive manner, with changing times, the role of learners in education has got subverted from a facilitator to a task monitor.

The Role of a learner In a learning situation or a process is a very important and challenging role.

A learner should be a good listener, thinker, interpreter, constructor etc.

In traditional teacher contract learning situations, the teacher tacks up a clear, definitinite, authoritative role and imparts knowledge to the leaner. The learners role is passive and learns by listening and following the learning instructions provided by the teacher.

In modern learner centric learning situations, the learner takes up the prime role and actively engages in the learning process. The learning learns by doing things while the Teacher becomes the facilitator of the learning process.

Characteristics of Teachers and Learners

Teachers

Teacher As A Learner.
Teacher As A Facilitator
Teacher As an Assesor.
Teacher As a Manager
Teacher As an Evaluator

Learners

Learning involves change
All learning involves activities
Learning requires Interaction
Constitute learning
Learning is lifelong process
Learning occurs Randomly throughout life.

Conclusions

As my opinion one last important role a teacher must fill is that of a learner. Anyone who has been involved in a profession long enough knows that there is always something new to learns. A teacher is a person who will have to fill many roles. They are people with educational leadership skills and they must continue to grow and develop as professionals.

The Role of English in India Unit 1# ELT1

Hello reader's!

Here I am wrote blog about The Role of English language in India. This task is my academic work. This task is given by Vaidehi Hariyani Ma'am from Department of English Bhavnagar University.

1) what is the role of english language in india according to you with reference to any essay discussed in the class?

Ans.                    English, though a foreign language in our country, has a very significant role. In the present day, English is found everywhere from textbook to songs, from films to religion. English language had come into India along with colonization. The British, as they set their empire in our country brought in their language too. They realized the necessity for this for their own selfish needs. But it did do lots of good for us in the later years.

English is also the language we use for foreign relations. Whenever we have any issue to discuss with other countries in the world it is mostly done in English. It is sometimes though done in any other language with the help of an interpreter. Our country has Many languages and the states were divided on linguistic majority basis. So when time came to decide about a national language, there were lots of issues. Though Hindi is our national language today, there were lost of issues then.

" Teaching English as' second Language 'In India" by kapil Kapoor

According to my opinion teaching en language in India as a second language is affected by many factors. Environment and family background play a vital role in the success of teaching learning process of English.

" A person 's second language or L2, is a language that is not the native language of the speaker, but that is used for communication with the people of another language".

According to my point of view English Language is global language. English is not our mother tongue. It's language of England. English is necessary thing because each and every requires English. We can see English is language of power. To survive in this modern Era it is necessary to require basic knowledge of English language.

2) what are the challenge you faced in while learning English Language as?

The English Language is one of the most popular language to learn, perhaps the most spoken language around the world is English, and I choose to learn the language simply to place them in a better position to secure work, or communicate more effectively with I from around the globe.

Here are two of the biggest challenges I must face when learning to speak and write English.

1) Grammar
2) vocabulary

1) Grammar :-  English Grammar is complete making it difficult to remember, master, and use logically. Learning grammar is like learning to drive, I can learn all of the theory, rules and regulations, but I won't be good at it unless I practice it and it starts to become second nature.

2) vocabulary :- is often a challenge to me, particularly when it comes to verb variations and understanding which tense should be used in various situations. English has one of the biggest vocabularies of all languages, and it can be very confusing for non- English speakers to master.

3) Write your reflection regarding the classroom activities, what challenges you faced in doing the activities as the teachers.

Ans :-  According to me. I was in 10th standerd we had the individual Grammer portion or Tenses. When I was trying to solve one tense and after that start a new tense at that time there was no issues at all.

This particular Activity is designed to make aware the learners of the cultural context behind the language when we learn any particular language which is not our mother tongue. But when we translate any sentence in another language then we lose the sense and taste of that particular language.

Translation of sentences
Introducing word
Choose a profession
Lesson plan

The first challenge was to plan this lesson. Because first we have to know the learning ability of our students. Whenever we plan a lesson the first question that comes to our mind is will they learn fully through this method and if they don't understand then we should come up with another plan.

4) How do you see your future with english language?

Ans :-          English may have a complicated past, but it has a bright future. Because so many people can speak the language, it helps connect us in a global world. It can be also help me and my porsonal and professional life. English is an important language for all kinds of professional and porsonal goals.

I am at being an English professor in the future. Again, I also want to change the nation's ideas. It has been very important for my career, although largely because world's many country in a English speaking country. English have more vital role than fair skills. If I am good in public dealing but I am weak in English, I can't consider a good person at all. In India English is a framework and I have to be fit in it. English is also the language of international Business, intern uhational marketing, international Trande and commerce. Most importantly, English teaches I will communicate with many people around the world.

                                  Thank you...

Thinking Activity :- movie screening : " To The Lighthouse

Hello reader's!

Here I am going to wrote about movie ' To the Lighthouse ". Directed by clin Greg written by Hugh Stoddart." To the Lighthouse is a 1927 novel by Virginia Woolf. The novel centres on the Ramsay family and their visits to last of skye in Scotland between 1910 and 1920.

   Introduction

Here title used very symbolic way because" lighthouse " is symbol of something statistics, overcoming challenges, adversity or guide for loss path into sea. I should noffy that Virginia Woolf has sense of geographical because she used geographical location and poetic imagine in the novel.

Fram study :- ' To The Lighthouse'

Virginia Woolf is in a way defined by the whats and shows of this narrative. More than the superficial resemblances. The novel nears to her actul life story, I reference the explicatory underpinnings, the subconscious musings that advance the plot and the translucent elicitation of dynamic.

This films basic plot is the Ramsay family are on holiday with a number of guests on the isle of skye, the novel explores their relationships and the plot, whilst interesting isn't the best part of Woolf 's book. Woolf's narrative style allows for the narrative to easily flow between characters whilst still creating a clear character voice. In how is Mrs, Ramsay thinking? The semantic effects of consciousness presentation categories within free indirect style ' Eric Rundquist describes this as a combination of indirect and direct discourse, a' style expresses a character's subjectivity without going him or her directly and without subordinating is syntactically to a reporting clause'.

The community is relatively slow - paced and there is a sense of social stasis within the novel woolf's description of time passing how this is shown within the house during part 2 of the novel is exallent and innovative. Showing why Woolf has stood the test of time.

My favorite part was a dinner scene when the guests are "all slat separate ', The interaction and lack of, between the characters was great, and demonstrated how well Woolf creates character. The social setting and the disconnection between the character made for interesting movie.

This is the ending of movie. Mr. Ramsay and James going to the lighthouse and lily drawing pictures of house, after many times she thinking about Mrs. Ramsay and that time she find out her focus. Ramsay family and lily again went to the summer house. Mr. Ramsay and James went to lighthouse and lily. Try to drawing the sketch but in one or two time she didn't get satisfied then she drawing the picture of Mrs Ramsay.

Sunday Reading :- Rivers and Tides

Sunday Reading : Rivers and Tides

  Hello reader's!

Hear I am going to wrote about" Rivers and Tides " is a film with Andy Goldswothy and this films directed by Thomas Riedelsheimer. This film also won the Golden Gate Award Grand prize for best documentary at 2003. This is my academic Activity is given by my professor Dilip Barad sir department of English Bhavnagar University.

Andy Goldswothy makes sense luscious sculptures entirely out of things he finds in nature - stones, twigs, leaves, plant staks, clay, ice, snow, documentarian Thomas Riedelsheimer shows us Andy Goldswothy as he creates art in natural settings using natural material. Such as driftwood, ice, mud, leaves, and stones. Goldswothy comments on his "earthworks" and occasionally responds to of screen questions that while he painstakingly builds his outdoors sculptures.
In this documentary film l can find that he try to built larger 'egg' through wood, stone and even ice. He makes used of colorful stone and leave send smooth sticks also. But he try to make something at that time destroyed sculpture by the nature. So he said that we all are part of nature so same as this sculpture we all are to be destroyed one day.

We see that he talks about the impact of sheep on the Scottish landscape, and made a chain of green leaves and placed them in the water. Beautiful stone wall. Crosses a filed, and goes under a river, and emerges to wind through the trees on the other side.

At the end of this film we get considered as great prices of art because of the deep philosophy behind the art. That everything is mortal in the nature, and also many lesson we can learn from this documentary that never give up, do not worry about failure in the life, work hard one day you will be success.

Here some pictures which Goldswothy crated. In the leap on nature with natural things.
                                         Thank you...
