Thinking Activity :- The White Tiger

 Hello readers!

Today I am going to wrote about the white tiger novel is written by Aravind Adiga. This blog is my academic work. This task is given by Dilip barad sir from Department of English Bhavnagar University. Here my task is upon to write given question.

1) How far do you agree with the India represented in the novel The White Tiger?

Ans :-        The India which is represented by Adiga is poor, corrupt, uneducated, and cheater also. Well I do agree that not only India but all countries in the world do have these bad kinds of problem in it. But it doesn’t make them all bad. Adiga has represented the darker side of India. This novel was written in 2008, after that India has progressed in many ways. But then even we can bot fully deny that poverty, corruption, and illiteracy are vanished from India. Still in some remote place there are landlords who ruled over town people. Still there are many people who are not educated properly. So, we can not deny the India which is represented in “The White Tiger” by Adiga, but we can say that, India is not only what is represented by Adiga.

(2) Do you believe that Balram's story is the archetype of all stories of 'rags to riches'?

Ans :-         Yes, Balram’s story becomes the archetype of all stories but We can say only 30 to 40 percent of people can follow the same thing as Balram did especially in the era of Post-truth. People can take as new morality like Balram said. But others can also become a good and well-known person in society through the hard work, think out of the box, intelligence and some time may be luck. For ex-In slumdog millionaire movie, Jamal became rich. Because people of India wants to become reach anyway and that’s why they used lottery tickets or this kind of shows also.

(3) "Language bears within itself the necessity of its own critique, deconstructive criticism aims to show that any text inevitably undermines its own claims to have a determinate meaning, and licences the reader to produce his own meanings out of it by an activity of semantic 'free play' (Derrida, 1978, in Lodge, 1988, p. 108). Is it possible to do deconstructive reading of The White Tiger? How?

Ans :- Yes, it is possible to deconstruct “The White Tiger”. We can deconstruct it with the help of Derrida’s concept of free play of meanings.  To break the language we need to find the loose stone of it. The loose stone of “The White Tiger” is that Balram himself says that he is “Half-backed”. This word breaks all the philosophy and all the ideals which Balram is presenting by giving his own example. Because he is not fully educated. He understand things with his limited power of analysis. He appropriate the deep philosophies with his shallow ideas and thinking. For example, he compares his idea of killing his master and get freedom with the enlightenment of Buddha.

4) With reference to screening of the Netflix adaptation :

The White Tiger stars Rajkummar Rao, Priyanka Chopra and Adarsh Gourav in the lead roles. It is directed by Ramin Bahrani. The newest Netflix film is a clumsy adaptation of the eponymous book by Aravind Adiga.

1)  write review of the film adaptation of The White Tiger

Ans :- The film is based on Aravind Adiga's book with the same name. Gourav playing the role of driver was outstanding throughout; it would really be unfair to rate his performance in numbers. Raj with his another Rudra avtar was magnificent. It is indeed a great pleasure to watch him doing different roles everytime cause he is the feel of every film he has done till date. On the other hand, priyanka never stops slaying, undoubtedly dynamic and mesmerizing.

2) have you identified any difference in the novel and the adaptation? Does it make any significant difference in the overall tone and texture of the novel?

Ans :- There are some differences between movie and novel the white tiger. These poetic lines bring major changes in both the movie and in the book. In movie, Pinky madam who speaks these lines when she goes to America and in books Bookseller who speaks these lines when Balram Halwai visits the book store and it changes entire life of Balram Halwai from Yokel to rich and successful entrepreneur.Minor change also like the lines of email last which he send to Mr. Jiabao.

3) David Ehrlich in his review write this Ramin Bahrani's Thriller is a Brutal Corrective to ' Slumdog Millionaire' why is it a 'corrective'? What was the error in Slumdog Millionaire that it is corrected?

Ans :- The  movie  slumdog Millionaire is a famous and appreciated by people. While  the novel is also  marvellous work  by Amiga who  portrait  the real image  India. India in which  we can see  corruption, bad politics. In the  both  end are different. Means both  Balram  and Hamid both became successful but  There  is difference. So this is the corrected by the white tiger.

                                            Thank you...

Thinking Activity :- Testing and Evaluation

Hello readers!

Here I am going to wrote about the testing and Evaluation. This blog is my academic task given by Dr Dilip barad sir from Department of English Bhavnagar University. Here my task is upon to write given question.

1) write on Validity and reliability the test

2) wrote on practicality of the test

3) who do you understand by backwash?

4) difference between assessments and Evaluation

5) How do you define good assessment?

So here I am given answer of this question so let's see

1} Validity and reliability of the Test

Validity

Validity refers to how accurately a method measures what it is intended to measure. If research has high validity, that means it produces results that correspond to real properties, characteristics, and variations in the physical or social world.

Reliability

Reliability refers to how consistently a method measures something. If the same result can be consistently achieved by using the same methods under the same circumstances, the measurement is considered reliable.

Different between validity and reliability

Reliability and validity are concepts used to evaluate the quality of research. They indicate how well a method, technique or test measures something. Reliability is about the consistency of a measure, and validity is about the accuracy of a measure.

It’s important to consider reliability and validity when you are creating your research design, planning your methods, and writing up your results, especially in quantitative research.

2}  Practicality of the test

It refers to the economy of time, effort and money in testing. In other words, a test should be easy to design, easy to administer, easy to mark, and easy to interpret the results (Bachman and Palmer, 1996). Moreover, according to Brown (2004) said that the test that is practical it needs to be within the means of financial limitations, appropriate time constraints, easy to administrator, score, and interpret.

3}  What do you understand by backwash?

Backwash is the effect that knowledge of the contents of a test may have on the course which precedes it. It may be positive or negative.

The backwash effect has tersely been referred to as 'the influence of testing on teaching, and learning.' (Gates 1995) This study ventured to examine the backwash phenomenon from teachers' perspective taking learners as the inducing factors of the backwash effect. The Qualitative approach was espoused. The data was collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with the HSC English language teachers of the government colleges in Hyderabad with a 'convenient sampling'. The participants numbering ten in total were equally taken from both the genders. The interview responses were thematically analyzed and coded to form a compact but summarized picture of the backwash teachers. The findings provided the breaking-through insights into the flip side of the backwash from teachers' vantage point. It established that the apathy/lack of interest by students brings an intense kind of backwash on teachers' teaching method, and content, and their overall morale.

4} Difference between assessment and Evaluation

Assessment is the systematic process of documenting and using empirical data to measure knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs. By taking the assessment, teachers try to improve the student's path towards learning. This is a short definition of assessment.

Assessment is feedback from the student to the instructor about the student's learning. Evaluation uses methods and measures to judge student learning and understanding of the material for purposes of grading and reporting. Evaluation is feedback from the instructor to the student about the student's learning.

Evaluation focuses on grades and might reflect classroom components other than course content and mastery level. An evaluation can be used as a final review to gauge the quality of instruction. It’s product-oriented. This means that the main question is: “What’s been learned?” In short, evaluation is judgmental.

5} How do you define good assessment?

Assessment literacy involves understanding how assessments are made, what type of assessments answer what questions, and how the data from assessments can be used to help teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders make decisions about teaching and learning. Assessment designers strive to create assessments that show a high degree of fidelity to the following five traits:

1.  Content validity

2.  Reliability

3.  Fairness

4.  Student engagement and motivation

5.  Consequential relevance

Thinking Activity :- Teaching language through literature

 Hello readers!

Here I am going to wrote about language through literature. question is that  how it is possible ?and what is the method for teaching  this way? So, let's discuss this things in this blog.this blog is my academic task given task given by Dr Dilip barad sir from Department of English Bhavnagar University.

Introduction

Teaching language through literature help teachers first to acquaint themselves with language use to develop their own competence and understand language as a social phenomenon, and not as an exclusive branch of learning. And another thing is that it transforms the classrooms as the stage in which there is real practice of communicative language. And also help teachers to consider language as entailing social acceptability in other words; they can look to classroom language as carrying resemblance with the outside language. And As a result, this would raise communication to the level of a social responsibility.

  • Why and What Literature Is Useful in Language Learn

Teaching Language Through Literature to use of literature as a technique for teaching both basic language skills example for reading, writing, listening, and speaking and language areas example for vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation is very popular within the field of foreign language learning and teaching nowadays and in translation courses, many language teachers make their students translate literary texts like drama, poetry and short stories into the mother tongue.

Teaching language through Film or video

As we know that video is a audio and visual medium. It is true that  which is watching by anyone it  will be easy to  remember things then  just  reading or listen. It will help to  remember t

Video and it's  subtitle will  help learners to increase the  vocabulary. When  they will  see  the  writing in video learner will focus on spelling and correct spelling or words they  will  get. we can put words and image to gather so teacher can clear concept of thing. Film will  help  learners to watch  many things and study on that. There is study of camera angle. Which gives so many new things to  learn.

Teaching language through novel or short story

Novels encourage students to read outside the classroom and they will know about  new culture so knowledge will be increased. Using novels in the classroom is beneficial. There are  many plus point which I put here because through it  teacher can  develop the  basic skill of learners, like reading and writing.  and learner as well.Novels motivate students inside the classroom.

Novels and short stories  develop speaking skills.Novels enhance listening skills. Novels encourage students to read outside the classroom. Novels expand students' vocabulary. Novels motivate students inside the classroom. Novels introduce students to different cultures. Novels help students overcome cultural differences. Novels improve reading skills.  Novels strengthen writing skills.

Conclusion

Teaching is not an easy  task. So there are  many ways to teach them  English or any language. Here I talked about  novel short stories and video or film. Through them  we can teach language and literature as well.

Thank you...

Thinking Activity :- One night @ The Call Center

 Hello readers!

Here I am going to wrote about the famous novel ' One night @The Call Center' is written by Chetan Bhagat. This novel writer wants to give message to the Indians that who working in call centre they just get good salary but it not give it a opportunity to do something else or for their skills. So this blog is my academic task given by Dr. Dilip barad sir from Department of English Bhavnagar University.

About the Auther

Chetan Bhagat is an Indian author, columnist, screenwriter, television personality and motivational speaker, known for his English language dramely novels about young urban middle - class Indians. He is contemporary writer who has earned a different name and made their distinction in the literary word. Bhagat writes columns for popular English and Hindi newspapers, including the times of India and Dainik Bhaskar which is focusing on youth areas and issues used on national development.

Bhagat's work

  • Five point someone
  • One night @The Call Center
  • The Three mistakes of my life.
  • 2 status
  • Revolution
  • What young Indian wants
  • Half girlfriend
One night @ The Call Center

One night @    The Call Center is included in the ' New Literature' new literature means something which is published in 21st century with contemporary issues. In this novel lady told the story of six people who worked in the call centre. She told the story to the writer by putting condition that he should write book on it.

Globalization and ON@TCC

Chetan Bhagat's most of the novels deals with contemporary issues. Young urban middle-class people. He is a twentieth century writer, and knows well that how to sold his books. In his novel One Night at the Call Centre, there is some aspects of modern India. People are working in call centres, so, title itself suggest that writer included several contemporary issues of modern India. Globalization is an economic development, everyone is struggle with their personal angst, the problems which are the causes of globalization.

For this novel we can say that the title of the Novel it self tells about the effect of globalization in call center. In this novel writer wants to give message to the Indians that who working in call center they just get good salary but it not give it a opportunity to do something else or for their skills and creativity Americanized form of English in the Call Centers.

From the starting we find that it has a positive as well as negative effects on life.  If we see the names of character,  Shyam turns into Sam,  Varun turns into Victor and etc.  We find cultural homogenization of workers in call center, exploitation of employees,  language issues,  growing technology,  equality between Men and Women,  Rising anxieties in life.

Self - Help and ON@TCC

Self help book is about moral lesson, solution of problems and also helpful for build personal philosophy. The meaning of Self-Help Book is to self improvement, Genre – non fictional book. Self –help books often focus on popular psychology such as romantic relationship, or aspects of the mind and human behavior. In On@tcc God’s call it shows the moral massage and it developed self confidence of characters. We see that all character suffer in their life. Also these all problems we find in our real life and also in the society. With help of the type of book we find solution of the problem. Chetan Bhagat’s present the real life situation of the people and how they all manage the life.

We can say that Chetan's God becomes a mouthpiece for his self help - 'listen to the inner call'. It is about inner call or inner voice. A self-help book is one that is written with the intention to instruct its readers on solving personal problems. God’s call it is a kind of a help, or it can be interpreted in many ways. God’s call pays the path, he shows just the path, but then all characters help themselves. In this way we can take this book as a self help book also.

Comparative study of Narative structure on on@tcc

One night @ the call center is a controversial novel. The novel's narrative framework in which we can find dream sequence. God has a dream or a real meeting, but the storyteller does not understand it.Chetan Bhagat  himself started the novel that he was on a train from Kanpur to Delhi and he met a woman who told him the story. So the protagonist describes it by dark. Here is a frame description.Unknown Lady-> Chetan Bhagat-> Shyam-> Reader also becomes problematic because it takes a different kind of understanding. If we compare it to Yan Martell's pie of life, then it is also the same narrative structure.

Chetan Bhagat makes very good use of prologue and epilogue in his novel. In prologue, writer himself comes as character and talks with the reader. The same thing can  find in life of pi in which Yann Martel Canadian writer meet the person. Both writer present in prologue and told that how they got inspiration. In the both work they meet person who told them stories and after that they collect deep information about it before writing novel. In epilogue there is alternative reading. After hearing story of pi Japanese agents not belived on it at that time pie told another story in which animals replace by humans. In the same happens in on@cc lady gave alternative reading by replacing God lines with Military uncle. So like this both work has Same narrative structure.

Popular Literature and ON@TCC

popular literature has this kind of structure of the works. In the one night at the call center shows the solutions of the problems through character of God. It has not intellectual solution of problems. The call from God is not deeply connected anywhere. The solution of problems not acceptable in social formation. It not challenges people to  think upon their believes. The solution of problems goes like drama. It  not gave  deep philosophy and intellectual solution. Virginia Woolf 's novel has deep intellectual and philosophical ideals. It shows the intellectual growth of writer while here writer still not go deeply in the novel. The solution of problems are like makeover not real intellectual  growth of people.  Chetan Bhagat consider as the popular writer because he deals with problems of common people. He using very simple English language because of it many people can start reading English novels. It makes him popular writer.
