- Shoalter and Gayatri spivak's view on Feminism.
Elaine Showalter says the most constructive approach to future feminist theory and criticism lies in a focus on naturing a new feminine cultural perspective within a feminist tradition that at the same time exists within the male tradition, but on which it is not dependent and to which it is not answerable.
Shoalter has tried to study the various aspects of feminist criticism while also pointing out the aims it should be trying to attain, the problems it faces and the reasons for these problems. The essay considers the fact that like feminist creative writers, feminist critics also face certain obstacles which have got highlighted after the rise of feminism. Showalter has tried to analyze in detail the belief that feminist criticism is in wilderness, which means, feminist critics are not caoable enough to produce wherent speculations.
Spivak says that she cannot speak of feminism in general. She can only speak about what she does as a woman in literary criticism. Her own definition of woman is very simple she fixes on the word man though she believes that no definition of anything is ever possible. Spivak believes that deconstruction alone cannot remove sexist, socio- cultural structures. We have to understand the existing antagonisms, between. Feminism, Marxist and deconstryctive readings to realize the issues related to the silenced Third world women.
Spivak's perspective can be called subaltern. This perspective highlights the fact that the voiceless in any society. Feminism as a radical Discourse has always bern a challenge to christian Theology. The contemporary deconstructive feminist social thought that signals a radical epistemic shift in transnational politics, economics and culture invokes. Theology to re - locate its methodology and focus.
